Utilitarianism is a theory of balancing that requires us to look at the impact of our proposed solution to ethical dilemmas from the viewpoints of all those who are included and affected. Based on the theory, we should think on all of side that affected by our action. We calculate and think about the advantages and the disadvantages of the action that will be done by us for us and for others. I do not agree with this utilitarian theory. Based on the book and several articles that I have read, this theory is more aimed to maximize personal gain, although it by justifying any ways (good ways and bad ways). Many examples of cases that occur, especially in business as recently occurred in which a children biscuit company, at first the were using high quality and best raw materials, but because of the economic global crisis that make the raw materials are more expensive than before, they use other materials which is not good enough for health to substitute the best raw materials

Arnold Schwazenegger is a governor in California. He is also known as a star of Terminator, one of the box office movies. There was a news about his wife who break the law, more than once at the same law. What is the purpose of his wife doing that? Does she want to be like her husband (famous and very popular)?-Just a kidding comment- Maria Kennedy Shriver, first lady’s office was caught by TMZ’s camera holding a cell phone while driving without using handsfree. In California, there is a law which ban the people using cell phone while on the wheel without using handsfree. Based on that law, of course the governor’s wife has done the violation. The more fatal one, Shriver drove her black SUV around a sharp right turn at a city intersection that way while she was on the phone. It’s not only endangering her, but also other people. The attitude which was showed by Arnold’s wife shows us that although she is a governor’s wife, it does not mean that she never breaks the law at all. T

My opinion about the statement of the winner of Puteri Indonesia 2009, Qory Sandioriva : “ saya menanggalkan jilbab saya dengan izin dari Pemda Aceh. The first reason is from the news side. On the news, we can assume that Qory is not consistent girl. So I am doubting of her statement. But if her statement is true, I have the second reason. Is it true that she has got the permission of the local government (Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam) to take her veil off? And if it’s also true, I have one question : Is the local government that she said in her statement the true local government, I mean all local government judicially, or just a few leader of local government who agree with her decision without any permission or compromise with other

Talking about business ethics of course it is connected to two words, that is ethics and business . Ethics here is not only about acting based on law, but higher than just a law. In the “ Business Ethics : Case studies and selected readings” (a book) Jennings said that ethical standards are not the standard of the law. In fact, they are a higher standard. Ethics is more than just common, or normative, standards of behavior. Ethics is honesty, fairness, and justice. From the definition above, we can take a conclusion that ethics is very important for our life. The existence of ethics not only preserve the others’s freshness but also give the advantages to whom acts ethically. The second keyword of business ethics is business . In his book entitled “ Business” , Ricky W. Griffin said that business is an organization which provides goods and services to obtain profit.
