The Utilitarian Theory

Utilitarianism is a theory of balancing that requires us to look at the impact of our proposed solution to ethical dilemmas from the viewpoints of all those who are included and affected.

Based on the theory, we should think on all of side that affected by our action. We calculate and think about the advantages and the disadvantages of the action that will be done by us for us and for others.

I do not agree with this utilitarian theory. Based on the book and several articles that I have read, this theory is more aimed to maximize personal gain, although it by justifying any ways (good ways and bad ways).

Many examples of cases that occur, especially in business as recently occurred in which a children biscuit company, at first the were using high quality and best raw materials, but because of the economic global crisis that make the raw materials are more expensive than before, they use other materials which is not good enough for health to substitute the best raw materials. They do this action to minimize their production cost and to maximize their profits without regard to consumers' health.

Therefore, new approaches need to be done from this theory that we are not mistaken in ethics and decision making.
